General Motors recently announced that it is tweaking its OnStar system to try to help owners find cleaner energy to power their Chevrolet Volt gas-electric hybrid vehicles.

At the DistribuTECH Conference and Exhibition in San Antonio this week, GM showed off a prototype OnStar system which uses data gathered by PJM Interconnection, an energy grid manager for 13 states and the District of Columbia.

The data, which includes information about when electricity on a regional grid is generated from , is uploaded to OnStar’s servers. Volt owners can then use a special smart phone app to program when to charge their Volt’s battery with green energybetween 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. when most of a regional grid’s power comes from hydroelectric dams, for example.

GM is currently developing and testing the advanced OnStar system with Google and its “Gfleet” of 17 Chevy Volts at Google’s Mountain View, Calif., headquarters.

Our son is turning three years old in a few days, and my wife and I are amazed at how many things change with him every day. And definitely, one of the things that’s changing is his appetite. It’s like he went from a bottle and mushy baby food to regular food almost overnight.

This changes many things. It changes what he eats, what he likes, and what I’ll share (or won’t share) with him from my plate.

But it also changes how we look at eating out and the prices/value of the kids meal at restaurants. We are lucky to live in a town where many restaurants offer a “kids eat free” night or even a weekly time slot. But this post will focus on those places that only offer a regular priced kids menu.

Hopefully I can keep my emotions under control and this post won’t turn into a soap-box rant. We’ll see. Bu

Google may be looking to compete with Amazon’s Prime service in 2012, according to sources cited in the Wall Street Journal, who stated that the search giant was in talks with both retailers and shipping companies about such a venture.

Google would not actually be getting into the business of selling products online: The new delivery service would use Google’s product-search feature, which directs you to the websites of participating retailers, in conjunction with a shipping option that would go through Google instead of the retailer you bought items from.

According to the Journal’s report, the quick delivery service from Google would let you receive orders within 24 to 48 hours, similar to the way Amazon Prime currently works .

And according to tech news site Engadget: “Google is reportedly talking to Macy’s, Gap and OfficeMax.

Is your budget completely out of control? Are you losing money each month? Do you dream of paying down your debt faster?

The solution to all three of these problems is to lose the credit cards and debit cards and use cash only.

After all, cash is king, right?

There is a growing belief among some of the top financial minds that living a cash-only life will help keep your spending under control.

The idea is that paying cash controls your spending habits better than using credit or debit cards.

And when your spending is under control, your formally wasted money can now help you thrive financially by paying down debt quicker, building a strong retirement portfolio, and saving for your children’s college.

All of this by replacing your credit and debit card swipes with bills and coins.

I’m inclined to agree.

But like any financial strategy, you must exercise perseverance and self control if you want to reach your future financial goals.

For anyone trying to get a handle on their financial situation, spending less is probably on the top of their list.

Studies have shown that consumers will spend about 15%-20% less when using cash instead of credit or debit cards.

One of the major reasons is point-of-sale budgeting. Thi Full Post…

I had become depressed after all I was getting ready to turn 33 and at that point in my life; I should have all my financial circumstances in place. No one should be trying to decide whether or not they should have to file bankruptcy or have to begin looking for an alternative to filing.

It all began when I was trying to better my life and started a business. I had no previous business experience; however I thought I could make it happen. I did not want the distraction of my day job; so I gave them two weeks notice. I believed that I could make my business take off. Well long story short; the business failed and I had to get a part time job. However the part time job that I got did not pay anywhere near to the amount that my regular day job used to pay. Therefore I did not make enough money to pay my monthly payments.
